Book Review: A Tale of Beauty from Ashes: A Six Session Bible Study based around the live action film 'Beauty and the Beast' by Liz Carter

Dear Friends,

Just last year I connected with Liz Carter through Facebook. I also signed up for her newsletter because I love what she has to say. When I signed up I received her eBook, "A Tale of Beauty for Ashes" for free. (If you are interested, you can do the same by clicking on this link here) Alternatively, you can buy it as an eBook or paperback version at a very reasonable price (through Amazon)

Read on if you're interested to know what her book is about and why I liked it...

I loved how Liz Carter combined the live action Disney film "Beauty and the Beast" (My all-time favourite Disney film 😊 Who doesn't love "Beauty and the Beast"?!) with Isaiah 61 for this six week Bible Study. She has used scenes from the film to explore the Biblical theme of redemption and restoration. Each week looks at a different aspect of restoration: such as our identity, our past, our hope, and our future. Each session ends with a thought from Isaiah 61 and a prayer.

What I particularly liked about this book is that it is Biblical, so whatever Liz says is backed up by Scripture. She asks thought-provoking questions which are a great way for the reader to grow in their own personal journey with God.

I went through this book on my own, I found it was easy to relate to and very encouraging. Whilst it was good to go through alone, I believe there are even more benefits to be gained from working through it in a small group. At the end of the book are extra notes for the discussion questions which is a helpful resource for the one leading the group. In a group, we are able to learn from each other as we discuss together. It gives us insight into each others' lives and fosters support and encouragement for one another. This is especially important as the sessions may bring up something painful for the individual, but there is healing to be received as issues are worked through with God and with others.

I think this book will appeal more to women, although there is no reason why men should not also read it. I think young girls in a youth group would also be blessed by it, especially as it addresses such issues as knowing how God sees you rather than finding your identity in how others' see you. A big issue for all of us, and particularly for girls in their teenage years.

This book is good for anyone, no matter what stage they are at in their Christian journey. I believe it would also work with anyone who may be searching for the truth and who are open to God.

Liz writes on the subjects of disability, chronic illness, injustice, faith and occasionally general silliness. She has a rare lung disease called bronchiectasis which is incurable and progressive. It shapes a lot of how she is and what she believes about life.

Liz is passionate about Jesus and the hope that he brings, and love to share stories about transformed lives.

You can connect with her in the following ways:
